Yummy "Avarakkai" Kootu

Nine months ran away with smile since I got married and our day starts with happy morning wish and quite good time to prepare breakfast in a short time since I need to catch my shuttle bus early. But still manage to prepare some good stuff in the morning, would mean as healthy food like sandwiches, fruit salads and so on. I’m a techie and start my day fast and leave home to office and gear up with my tasks and assignments for the day. So I would spend max two hours a day in my kitchen. But still worth of spending this time to serve my husband with hot and juicy food baskets. Oh god!!!! Need to listen on my husband’s comments on the food preparation sometime as a improvements, pat on my back and affectionate recognition…seems to excited right….Hey hold on then get married soon, you all would realise the same as all married couples…(Smilies )

Some of the food items that we cook for our daily stuff was Idly, upma, rice with dal and curry, etc. Sambar and Rasam were so called our “Special Varieties” :). However (unfortunately :P) my husband found out one day that I was making Sambar with same procedure and ingredients, but only changing the vegetables. So I had to try out something new!!!! Last month my mother-in-law gave me some books for me to try things….thanks to her!

And here it goes…..You require the following:
1. Avarakkai ( Broad Beans )– 1 cup
2. Tur dal – ½ cup
3. Fried “Kadalai parupu” (Channa dal / Split chick peas )– 1 teaspoon
4. Dry chillies – 3
5. Jeera – 1 tsp
6. salt – as required
7. Grated coconut
8. Mustard seeds, urud dal and oil to fry

Fry kadalai parupu, Dry chillies, jeera and grind it with grated coconut. Cook Avarakkai in a vessel with little salt added to it (say for about 5-10 mins). Then add the ground mixture to the same and stir for a while. And now fry the mustard seeds, urud dal and a red/dry chilly and add it to the above.

It’s yummyyyyyyyy!!! And believe me it takes only about 15 mins, but made something special and new to please my husband :)
